Charbay Vodka

Saturday April 29, 2006
The time and care that independent distillers put into producing quality liquors is apparent in the distinct tastes that result. I recently had the pleasure of tasting a variety of vodkas produced by Charbay, a distillery and winery in Northern California. Their clear vodka is top notch: smooth, little burn and clean finish. As good as that was, it was the flavored vodkas that impressed me the most. Charbay's citrus flavors (Blood Orange, Meyer Lemon and Ruby Red Grapefruit) are not as tart or bitter as many other brands I have tasted before. The most amazing flavor from Charbay is their Green Tea Vodka. Even if you are not a tea drinker, I can almost gaurantee that you will enjoy sipping on this vodka. It is smooth, has a fresh and clean flavor, and a barely noticeable burn. Forget mixing this one with anything, you'll miss out on the herbal greatness of this unique vodka. In the coming weeks I will be writing a full review on each of these flavors from Charbay.

Gotta try Oregon based Sub Rosa Spirit’s Tarragon vodka and Saffron vodkas. Herbal, spicy, exotic, sublime. I think they are only available on the West Coast. Tried these at an Open House recently and loved them both.
