Fun Sugars for Holiday Cocktails

Wednesday December 6, 2006
Rimming a glass with sugar or salt is standard for Margaritas and Bloody Caesars, but plain sugar isn't the best compliment for many drinks. There are a lot of flavored sugars and salts available that, once you find that you like tangerine with your Cosmo or mango with your Hurricane, you'll see how a little added sweetness can transform the usual. Cocktail Candy makes around 20 different flavored sugars and for the holidays the company releases some specialty flavors that are perfect for holiday cocktails. On the glass of the fruitier drinks of the season like an Angel's Delight, Mistletoe Martini or Northern Lights, try out the "Cranapple Christmas" sugar. On the sweeter side, the chocolate-mint sugar dubbed "Abomintable Snowman" is perfect for anything with chocolate or mint like Peppermint Patty and White Christmas. Or you can add even more mint to an Iceberg or Midnight Snowstorm with the peppermint-flavored sugar, "Peppermint Twist." Hang a couple miniature candy canes from the side and !Voilą! you have a drink that's perfect for the spirit of the season.
