Go Herbal

Wednesday February 21, 2007
I was delightfully surprised with the natural flavors of a new line of herb-infused vodkas produced by Herb's Aromatic Vodka. As a gardener I know what fresh herbs smell and taste like and these four vodkas are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. Herb's produces infusions of cilantro, dill leaf, fennel and rosemary, each of which are both aromatically and tastefully pleasing in their own way. The Rosemary Vodka has to be my favorite and can turn an ordinary Martini into a sensory trip unlike any unflavored vodka or gin. The dill further complicates the spices in a Bloody Mary and the cilantro transforms a Margarita into an herbal delight that is perfect with enchiladas or quesadillas. However, it takes a certain person to really enjoy the pure taste of fennel. People who intentionally seek out black jelly beans and black licorice ropes will truly appreciate this vodka. If you're one of those people, hats off to you and I think you now have a liquor perfect for your trained tongue. The company has adapted many of the classic cocktails (like those I mentioned) to accept their distinct product line, but they also have many wonderful original cocktails and tempting food recipes on their website that were designed specifically for these herbal spirits.

I tried these at Tao on NYC. Excellent vodkas making cocktails I never had before. The Rosemary infused Martini was a savory delight. Finally a vodka that is not another “flavored” citrus.
