Filling Spring with Freshness

Wednesday March 28, 2007
The types of libations we choose tends to change with the seasons and now that spring is officially here it's time to start thinking of the freshness and flavors of the season. Typically people are drawn towards sweeter, lighter and more refreshing cocktails as the temperatures rise and everything turns green. In spring, fruit juice cocktails make an appearance once again and, with the increased availability of fresh fruit, this is the perfect time to uncover the juicer from its winter hiding place and add fresh squeezed fruit juice to Bocce Balls and Palomas. Twist sweet freshness into your Tequila Sunrise with fresh orange juice and homemade grenadine or make your own sour mix as well for the satisfaction of knowing you have the freshest Ward Eight available. Let us not forget the simple, satisfying task of making your own simple syrup to keep on hand for Daiquiris and Lemon Drop Martinis. You can even take your syrup further and infuse it with the abundance of fresh herbs that will soon be at our fingertips to create complex, flavorful cocktails like Charbay's Moroccan Cocktail. Going fresh with as many ingredients as you can gets you in the mood for summer, washes away the winter blues and adds a little light to the rainy April ahead.
