April- Alcohol Awareness Month
Thursday April 5, 2007
The month of April has been designated as Alcohol Awareness Month. The focus of this yearly campaign, headed by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, is to help people recognize whether or not they have a drinking problem. Today (April 5th) is National Alcohol Screening Day, a day where venues around the United States host informational events and offer free alcohol screenings to determine if a person may have an issue with alcohol abuse. You can find a list of events in your area on the NASD website. It's important to evaluate your drinking habits on a regular basis. Are you drinking too much? Why do you drink? Is alcohol a scapegoat for your everyday problems? Are you one of those people who should not be drinking at all? These (and others) are all questions we should ask ourselves from time to time. In the self-evaluation we can pinpoint whether or not we should cut down or stop drinking all together. If there is a significant problem, there are many places to get help. Buddy, About.com's Guide to Alcoholism, has more information on the subject, his site is a good place to start asking and answering questions and finding the resources you may need.
