Cocktails that Cross that Line
When we think of a good drink we're usually thinking of either a dry cocktail with a strong liquor base, a heavily juiced cocktail that is a sweet sipper or a creamy, delightful dessert cocktail. We also have the notion that whatever we order will be garnished with lemons, limes, oranges, olives, even flowers and vegetables. In the competitive cocktail market bartenders and mixologists are constantly trying to outdo the last great cocktail and more often than not it's a success. However there are a few coming out of the woodwork that are as horrible as the Cerebral Hemorrhage shooter of a decade or so ago.
How would you like a tofutini? Actually the drink is called the Tamari Tofutini and while the liquids sound like a good mix, check out the garnish (pictured). Yes, someone has added cubes of tamari-soaked tofu to a drink. Personally, I love tofu and I love to drink. Would I put them together? No. The Tamari Tofutini is not half as bad as one of the latest links I've received. Bacon anyone?
One of the recent stories at Chow.com includes a drink from the Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas. Apparently, behind the bar you'll find an infusion of vodka that does not include the typical fruits and herbs, no, this one has bacon. The vodka, which is described as ready to drink when it "thickens into an opaque, filmy solution," is used to create one of the bar's signature cocktails, the Bacon Martini complete with a slice of bacon for a garnish. Really, can Americans stop adding greasy, fatty bacon to everything? Apparently not, and what a perfectly good waste of vodka.

Now I love me some bacon, but I have to draw the line somewhere… Maybe having some bacon with my martini would be the best way, as I don’t like soggy bacon.
