Pear Perfection
Tuesday May 8, 2007
Just a couple of months ago the much-awaited release of Grey Goose's newest flavored vodka finally came into fruition, a wait worth every minute. The flavor, pear, is really no surprise as, even before the turn of the new year, industry leaders were tagging 2007 as the year of the pear in the cocktail world. Although most of the flavor hype was due to the highly publicized release of Absolut Pear, I'm of the opinion that La Poire distilled by Grey Goose is considerably smoother, sweeter and truer to the seductive flavors of the fruit. What to do with this new flavor? Well, Grey Goose La Poire is great on the rocks but for a more complex drink marry it with equally sweet ingredients (amaretto, ginger, lemoncello) with just a touch of sour. Cocktails like the Peartini and Tuscan Pear are outstanding and, for an extra special twist, pair it with sake in a Lotus Blossom. The nationwide rollout of La Poire should be near complete by now so it should be rather easy to find, just in time for those spring and summer days when all you want is a refreshing fruit drink.
