Grab Absolut New Orleans While You Can
Wednesday October 31, 2007
Ever since it was unveiled at Tales of the Cocktail back in July I've been waiting for a taste of Absolut New Orleans and, finally, it came around my way. It has since turned out to be one of my favorite infused vodkas, it's just a shame that it will soon be gone. While some of Absolut's other flavors are good none are particularly outstanding or unique, but this one is spectacular and really one of a kind. I like the idea (and taste) of putting together a fruit, in this case mango, with a spice (pepper). That may seem somewhat unnatural for drinks, but the result is striking and reminds me of some of the boutique gins that have recently come out. The Big Breezy Absolut is promoting is a fruity martini that is very good, but for me New Orleans deserves a simple Vodka Martini with a couple dashes of bitters. If you're itching at the chance to try it out like I was, I'd get to it. Absolut only produced 35,000 cases and they say it's expected to sell out sometime around the end of the year unless there's a big rush on it. Now it's time to attempt to recreate that flavor in an infusion of my own and wait to see what the next city vodka will hold.
