Green Drinks for Everyone

Wednesday March 12, 2008
Mexican SamuraiWhat will you be drinking this St. Patrick's Day? Usually people are looking for drinks with at least one of two characteristics for the occasion...Something Green or Something Irish. A favorite on the green side is green beer (food coloring in light-colored beer), but if you're in the beer drinking mood just go with a Guinness instead. Cocktails with the green varieties of Chartreuse and creme de menthe or other green spirits like Ty Ku, apple schnapps, Voodoo Tiki Green Dragon Tequila or even lime juice will usually be some shade of green. And, if the selection of green liquors doesn't work out you can always revert back to 1st grade art class theory: "yellow and blue make green," mixing a blue spirit with pineapple or orange juices. For a taste of Ireland you can't go wrong with Irish Whiskey of course, maybe Irish cream or Irish Mist liqueurs. Then again, shooters are plentiful for a quick buzz. The Nutty Irishman, Irish Car Bomb and Irish Flag are always popular. No doubt, the drink options are nearly endless but there are some St. Patrick's Day cocktails that stand out.
