Drinks for Dads

Monday June 9, 2008
A great gift idea for Dad this Father's Day is a premium bottle of his favorite spirit. If he's partial to whiskey and has a usual brand, treat him to something new and special that follows that style. If bourbon is his whiskey, go with Maker's Mark, Knob Creek or Booker's or hunt down a great rye whiskey. It's not only a gift that he can enjoy in the future, but also one that you can crack open and use to mix up a great drink for him on Sunday.

I have a few Manly Drink suggestions that you can mix up for your Dad. The list is filled with whiskey cocktails (the "manliest" of spirits), including the Manhattan and the Frisco Sour and if Dad is a Scotch-man there's the Rusty Nail and Godfather. A couple of cocktails that didn't make the cut and are equally ideal for any guy are the Negroni, Oak Room Special, Old-fashioned, Rob Roy and Sazerac. Whatever your father's tastes are there's a drink out there for him and a shaking that up is a great way to show your appreciation.
