Keeping Ice Fresh

Monday June 23, 2008
All ice is not created equally. Ice made with unfiltered water will add any of its impurities to a cocktail. Likewise, old ice that picks up the odors of the contents of your freezer will taint your drinks in unwanted ways. The best ice is the purest ice and your drinks and drinkers will thank you for paying a little attention to what seems unimportant.

There are a few easy steps you can do to keep your ice as fresh as possible...

  • Freeze purified water.
  • Rotate your ice in the trays or bucket so that none of your ice stays in the freezer too long.
  • Don't store ice near strong smelling foods. There's nothing worse than a cocktail that has the taste of that fish you've been storing in the freezer.
