I have yet to read it myself but the excerpts and the author's interview peaked my interest. The story of the Bacardi's is one far beyond the liquor industry giant we think of today and it all began in 1862 with a small distillery in Santiago, Cuba. When independence from Spain was sought in the early 1900's the Bacardis were there and when Fidel Castro took over in the late 50's the company was one of the backers of the new government until property was seized and the family went into exile. That's a very brief synopsis of the Bacardi story and if you want to hear more the NPR story is available online along with an excerpt from the book. I know this will be one new addition to my library this year.
