Tuesday's Timeless Tipple: Charlie Chaplin Cocktail

Tuesday October 28, 2008
Charlie Chaplin was a great figure in early cinema and who can forget all those old movies he first appeared in in the early 1900's. My favorites are still when Chaplin played the tramp and his many run-ins with the police. I bring up the cocktail bearing his name for this particular Tuesday Timeless Tipple because not only was Chaplin a character in his time, but many people still use his distinct features and dress as a Halloween costume. What could be more fitting than to finish the effect off with a Charlie Chaplin Cocktail in hand?

I have yet to confirm if the actor actually drank his "own" cocktail but it is a classic as it appears in The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book from the 1930's. Since Chaplin did live into the 70's I'd have to think he had at least one sip of this apricot brandy and sloe gin tipple. The cocktail is sweet, neat and it's hard to have just one. No wonder it's become a classic, just like it's namesake.
