Tuesday's Timeless Tipple: Algonquin

No matter what, an Algonquin is not an Algonquin without rye whiskey. Now, whether that be Old Overholt, Old Portrero, Templeton, Jim Beam or Wild Turkey (or your own favorite), the key here is rye. One of the newest ryes is (ri)1 (aka Rye One) and this lighter, sweeter rye whiskey does well against the pineapple here also.

What the Algonquin does is pair the rich, robust rye with dry vermouth and sweet, tart pineapple. It's a lovely mix that is both intriguing and addicting. Once you find the balance for your own personal tastes you'll know the beauty of this long-lasting drink. As a side bar, it is oddly named after the famed Algonquin Hotel built in NYC in 1902 - which was notoriously a dry establishment before Prohibition and during.
