Saturday Sipping: Chambord and the French Martini

Saturday January 10, 2009
This week's sipper is a sweet, luscious cocktail that is one of those you should know and if you don't you're missing out on one of the best. This Saturday Sipper is the French Martini and its one key ingredient, Chambord: without it the drink will not be as beautiful as it is designed to be. Chambord Liqueur

The French Martini is a simple drink of gin (although some use vodka), the luscious black raspberry liqueur known as Chambord and pineapple juice. The combination is a fantastic fruit concoction with both dark and light profiles and hint of botanicals lying underneath. This is one of my favorites when I'm in the mood for a fruit cocktail but want something a little bolder than the Cosmos and Bacardi Cocktails of the world - just what you want in the middle of the winter and its all right there in a single cocktail glass.

Speaking of Chambord, try it as a floater on a margarita sometime.
