Saturday Sipping: Dirty Hornitini

Saturday February 14, 2009
When I first saw the recipe for this week's Saturday Sipper the suggestive name caught my eye, then the thought of a Dirty Tequila Martini made me think...Maybe this could work. So, I bring you the Dirty Hornitini this Valentine's Day.

This cocktail is surprising in that the olive and tequila work very well together. The smooth and spicy character of Hornitos Reposado is a nice match for the olive, and of course, the vermouth is there to even everything out. One thing I noticed, and this goes for the Dirty Martini as well, is that there is a very fine line between too much and too little olive. I can't count how many times I've had a "burnt" Dirty for lounges - it seems like common sense to go easy on it - and while you can get away with that just a little with gin, when we throw tequila in the mix that line is even thinner. So, I recommend with the recipe given to cut the olive to 1/2 part and without a doubt use the orange bitters.
