More Cocktail iPhone Apps Launching

Thursday March 19, 2009
The whole iPhone craze is hitting the cocktail world by storm. I've seen various apps being used in bars already and they're very handy. Bartenders with these do-all gadgets are putting away the old, liquor-stained books and grabbing their phone to look up a drink order they are not familiar with. The apps are also being used to impress patrons (or guests if you're entertaining at home) with something new. This is a fantastic way to have a bartending guide in your pocket anywhere you go and there are already quite a few available, but the exciting news for March are a couple of new releases.

Just launched is Flip 'N Drink by Gary Regan and Mardee Haidin Regan. This one takes the vast knowledge of these two Cocktailians, combines it with a sleek look and a lot of great drinks. To be expected from the Regan's who have written many great books, including Gary's Joy of Mixology, their iPhone cocktail app has classic cocktails and a fantastic collection of many of the new creations by the hottest bartenders today. "Cocktail Conversations" give a little story about the drinks and a great "If you like this" feature refers you to similar drinks.

The other cocktail app I'm very excited about isn't available just yet, but the projected launch is by the end of this month. This one comes from the one and only Miss Charming and looks like it is filled with the fun graphics that Cheryl is known for (check out her website, impressive). Miss Charming's app is a cocktail trivia game. I know Miss Charming has been working hard on collecting the content for the trivia questions that span topics from spirits and recipes to cocktail celebrities and histories with three levels of play: Bartender, Mixologist and Geek.

So if you download the Regan's cocktail database and Charming's game you have a party waiting for you in your phone. Other recommended cocktail apps are 101 Cocktails from Jimmy Patrick, Cocktails Made Easy from Simon Difford, Cocktails+ from CocktailDB, and Pocket Cocktails.

Hi Colleen,

Thanks for the mention in your roundup here. I’ve tried all the cocktail apps, and I’m finding them all quite interesting in their own ways.

I like the iShot Machine app because it’s more than just another recipe app with a million drinks. This is entertainment with a useful recipe database. A cool interface and fun to use. Great for an icebreaker at a bar. http://www.iShotMachine.com

I would also like to recommend Patrik’s Cocktails by celebrity chef Patrik Jaros. All recipes are explained in detail supported by a photographic documentation.
