A couple weeks ago I wrote about the beauty of the Coffee Cocktail and just this week the Small Screen Network debuted a new video about this great drink. The Coffee Cocktail on The Cocktail Spirit with Robert Hess is a 5 minute video tutorial that shows you exactly how to make the drink. As always, it also includes some great tips from "The Drink Boy" from the type of port to use to the probable origin of the Boston shaker.
In Jerry Thomas' Bartender's Guide (1887) the Coffee Cocktail made its first appearance in print with the note: "The name of this cocktail is a misnomer, as coffee and bitters are not to be found among its ingredients, but it looks like coffee when it has been properly concocted, and hence probably its name." Although, as you'll see in the video's discussion, a few people enjoy bitters in the drink - cocktails are all about interpretation and customization.
