If you haven't noticed yet, gin is by far my favorite spirit and while New Amsterdam is just above my limit for the best truly-budget gins, at a whopping $14 it is a great new addition to the $20 and under gin market. So, we combine that inspiration with the flavors of fresh produce and it is a win-win for cocktails in a recession. For instance, the Union Square matches strawberries and basil with the gin and agave nectar for a clean taste from the garden and the "new" Brooklyn gets a little crazy with strawberries and arugula. Venturing into yet another part of NYC, the collection includes a Central Park cocktail follows the Bloody Mary legacy of great tomato juice highballs, only this one is significantly milder and slightly sweeter while playing off the aromatics of the gin. My fourth choice from the city collection is the Soho, which brings out fresh in the ultimate shining light. In this cocktail fresh is at its best, featuring a mix of lemongrass, ginger and mint for a refreshing tall drink. Inspiration can be found inside each of these cocktails, especially this time of year while we plan and plant our gardens, more specifically our bar garden where we can taste the fresh, fresh fruits of our labors in great drinks. Ahh, satisfaction!

I saw New Amsterdam in the store the other day, and was curious about it, but hadn;t had a chance to took it up yet. Thanks for the review. Gonna give it a try in some new summer coolers!
