It is always exciting to come across a bartender who is innovative and while in New Orleans last month I had the pleasure of chatting with a lot. One of them was Amanda Buhr of the Zoe Lounge at the W New Orleans Hotel. Her drinks were some of the best I had all week and it was interesting to get her perspective of bartending.

There are many aspects that interested me about Amanda. She is one of those women bartenders who can mix it up with the big boys, is in the heart of the New Orleans cocktail scene, and keeps thinking about the next drink she'll make. It is also amazing the speed at which she has to work to handle the drink orders for the entire W Hotel (minus the business of the Library Bar and Whiskey Blue downstairs), and she often flies solo. If you get a chance, I recommend a stop at the W New Orleans and a venture up to the second floor Zoe Lounge for fascinating drinks in a contemporary, casual atmosphere (and wonderful tapas) for a chat with this remarkable woman.
