Saturday Sipper: Boca Loca Cachaca and the Homecoming Caipirinha
The Caipirinha is one of the easiest cocktails to experiment with because if you take the base of cachaca and a muddled fruit and sweetener you can take it anywhere your imagine wanders. We are going to one of those far off places, with a touch of autumn, in this week's sipper, the Homecoming Caipirinha.
In this cocktail Anika Zappe of Root Down in Denver, Colorado has decided that the fruits of choice is a mix Fuji apples and lemon, which are muddled with fresh sage (experiment with different sages as well, I'm thinking pineapple sage would be a nice touch). The sweetener is a cinnamon-infused agave nectar (see recipe notes on how to do this) and it is all rounded off with a splash of organic apple juice. These flavors enhance the sweetness of Boca Loca, one of the great cachacas available in the U.S., for a finished drink that screams autumn deliciousness.
