Rum has long been one of the featured spirits of the holiday season, just look at the Hot Toddy, Tom and Jerry and Eggnog - each of which do or may contain rum - among other classics. There is also a relatively unknown (or forgotten) rum cocktail that is absolutely amazing and a wonderful addition to your holiday drink menus: the aptly named Winter Cocktail.
The fascinating part about this cocktail is that it is both rich and spicy with so many layers of flavor that it is almost too good to put down. This is because it combines the sweetness of rum with two spices, which were originally obtained by ginger brandy and pimento dram. While the dram is still around (brands like St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram), ginger brandy is a little more difficult to come across. That was until Domaine de Canton came back on the market a couple of years ago. That brandy-based liqueur has given new life to the Winter Cocktail and it's a taste that you won't forget once it grabs you.
