July Cocktail Contest: Light Rum

By , About.com GuideJuly 11, 2010

Follow me on:

With two classic rum cocktails having their "holiday" in July (National Pina Colada Day: July 10, National Daiquiri Day: July 19) I thought it would be appropriate that this month's theme for the cocktail contest follow those suit. However, I wanted to be more specific on the topic - saving other styles of rum for the future - and decided that July is the month of Light Rum.

This is your chance to show off your favorite, original light rum cocktail and I expect the competition to be fierce. Light rum is almost as versatile as vodka when it comes to creating new cocktails. It has a sweet, light flavor that works with everything from bright fruits in all of those tropical cocktails  to rich brandy in a Boston Sidecar and creamy delights like Parisian Blond. There are many possibilities here and there are some holes that could be filled, but I won't talk about that quite yet in an effort to be as neutral as possible. I want to see where your creative spirit will take you, but you have to submit your recipe by July 31st.

Show off your Light Rum Cocktail here...

By the way, I will be announcing the winner of the Pineapple Cocktail Contest from June within the next couple of days. You're going to love this one!

My wife & I are curious as to why Starbucks is advertising “Shaken” Iced Tea? What benifit could there be to shaking a premixed beverage? I just discovered your site and am bookmarking it.
Thanks.
