Welcome to 2011!
Even though it's afternoon, some of you may still be in need of some help and here's a quick link to helpful hangover tips...
With that post New Year's Eve business done, I want to talk about another celebration of the day. Today is quite appropriately Bloody Mary Day. There are few better ways to start a new year off with a well-balanced, spicy Bloody Mary.
I was contemplating of using the Bloody Mary as the theme for the first cocktail contest of the year. I decided to skip that idea because I think the Bloody Mary, in contest form anyway, should be constructed by it's creator in order to be properly judged. Sometimes there's that one extra dash of something that no one else would add that makes a drink spectacular and only that one person can get it.
So, since that would be logistically possible and I want to make this Bloody Mary collaboration a work in progress, I'm foregoing the contest idea and would instead like to invite you to simply share your favorite Bloody Mary recipe. I think there's a lot of inspiration that can be gained from reading and experimenting with other's recipes and this drink is a prime candidate.
You can share your Bloody Mary recipe here... There are no rules and anything can be added or left out (including the alcohol), as long as it looks and tastes like the original drink.
I'll be announcing the new cocktail contest within the next few days... stay tuned!

I’m sipping a bloody mary at this very moment! With the extended weekend break, it seems like the perfect way to celebrate the new year. My favorite Bloody Mary Recipe is the Algonquin Bloody Mary, which uses limes for a very sultry flavor.
here’s the recipe:
2 oz Vodka
4 oz Tomato Juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice from half a lime
1 1/2 tsp Worcesterhire Sauce
6 dashes Tabasco Sauce
Salt
Pepper
1 Lime wedge
What I like to do is before I pour the bloody mary into the glass, is to rub the rim with the lime wedge, and dip into into the salt, kind of like a margarita. so good.
