Revisiting the Mae West Cocktail

By November 13, 2012

Sometimes you are in the mood for a cocktail with just the smallest of kicks and the Mae West Cocktail is perfect.

This classic has a gentle base of brandy and egg yolk with a touch of sugar. Now, here the yolk is used for the actual eggy flavor, which is different from the more popular use of the white that gives a drink that luscious foam. That makes this very similar to an eggnog in which both parts of the egg are used. On top of all of this soothing, sultry side we bring in Mae's daring personality with a pinch of cayenne for that kick.

It's quite a delightful, somewhat forgotten drink and is a good primer for the upcoming nog-filled season.
