Television is riddled with cooking competitions. They are everywhere and I do enjoy watching them every now and then, and on occasion you will find a cocktail or two being made to compliment a dish. However, there is a serious lack of shows dedicated to bartending and cocktails. The most notable so far is Jon Taffer's Bar Rescue (an admittedly addicting show), and tonight we have a new one on the Travel Channel.
Diageo Reserve World Class 2012 Competition Judges
World's Best Bartender will air tonight (Monday, November 19) at 11:00 p.m. Eastern and features the competition from the Diageo Reserve World Class 2012. It brings together 39 of the world's best bartenders, including the U.S. winner Ricky Gomez from Portland, Oregon. The international competition is filled with the who's who of fantastic, creative, and complex drinks. Of course, there are celebrity judges that many of us know of from the cocktail scene. That list includes Salvatore Calabrese, Dale DeGroff, Peter Dorelli, Gary Regan and Steve Olson.
Now, there's no doubt that you can find the results of this competition online and I will not add a spoiler here. Though even with knowing the results, you cannot see the science and art that went into the drinks without watching the show. If you have ever been to a cocktail competition in person, you will know the chaos and magnificence of such an event and they are always fun to watch.
The other note on this is that it is a one-time show, not a series. Maybe this will be the catalyst for a regular Top 'Tender series to run alongside the myriad of chef and baking cook-offs? Now wouldn't that be fun?
There is very little information on Travel Channel's website about the show, though there are some images and you may want to check out local times and listings, so here is the link...
