Chocolate Cocktail

First of all, there is no chocolate in this drink so the name is deceptive in our modern minds. It is actually a mixed drink that I came across in the 1939 Just Cocktails by W.C. Whitfield. In the vein of the Coffee Cocktail (which contains no coffee) it is a poignant reminder of how different drinks were in that era.

Today we may think of a drink with this name as being a cocoa-filled dessert drink like the Chocolate Martini or its many variations, but this is not the case. If you came here looking for those indulgent chocolate drinks, check out this list.

What the Chocolate Cocktail is is a mix of maraschino, blackberry, and Chartreuse liqueurs with egg yolk and it is actually quite tasty. It is another great classic cocktail that deserves a bit of attention.
