The Millionaire Cocktail is a classic cocktail and one of those that has stood up to the tests of time and been adapted into many forms. This is the original Millionaire Cocktail No. 1 from the Harry Cradock's 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book. It is a lovely mix of sloe gin, apricot brandy and Jamaican rum and to substitute any of those for one of their "spirit cousins" would be a travesty, although there are quite a few recipes that specify brands and change the ratio. You'll also find a much different Millionaire around which can lead to some confusion.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 oz sloe gin
- 3/4 oz apricot brandy
- 3/4 oz Jamaican rum
- 1 dash of grenadine
- juice of 1 lime
Preparation:
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Another Millionaire: "Dry Martini, with Grenadine on top"
-according to The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book
