I have to thank a reader for pointing out this forgotten favorite - and all the time it was in Just Cocktails, one of the most charming bartending books in my collection. The Weep-No-More hangs out in the "Favorite Sons" chapter which leads me to believe it was a local favorite somewhere, probably between 1900-1939. What it is is a classically designed cocktail of brandy and Dubonnet, which were two favorites of the time. Add a dash of maraschino and a bit of lime and I have to say you'll be "weeping no more."
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 oz Dubonnet Rouge
- 1 1/2 oz brandy
- 1/4 tsp maraschino liqueur
- juice of 1/2 lime
Preparation:
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
