An Admiral Benbow is a refreshing lowball drink that blends the sweet flavors of Plymouth gin, lime juice and dry vermouth. It's an obscure cocktail that I've fallen in love with but its history alludes me. It could have been named for the fictional Admiral Benbow Inn that housed Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island. But then again there was a Royal Navy Admiral John Benbow who was immortalized in song after a mutiny among his captains. That was 1702 so the Treasure Island link is more believable.
