Black Velvet

By Colleen Graham, About.com

The Black Velvet is an interesting mixed drink that combines Champagne and beer. One may think this an unlikely combination but it's actually quite good and some people prefer it with more Champagne rather than the 1:1 mix in this recipe. Supposedly it was created by a London steward and served while the country was in mourning over the 1861 death of Queen Victoria's husband. The drink has inspired a few companies to bottle similar mixes as was seen in the recent release of Krait Prestige.

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Champagne
  • 4 oz chilled stout

Preparation:

  1. Pour the Champagne into a beer mug, pint glass or Champagne flute.
  2. Slowly pour the stout on top.
