This really isn't a recipe, but more of a methodon how to 'properly' take a shot of tequila, or tequila cruda. Tequila connoisseurs will tell you that you should savor the taste and aroma slowly when drinking straight tequila. However, this method is a hit at parties and with tourists in Mexico, and there is an order that should be followed for it to make sense (more on that in the recipe).

A decent gold or silver tequila or Mezcal is best, avoid the cheaper brands which almost certainly bring on hangovers.

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 3 minutes

Yield: 1 Shot

  1. Moisten the back of your hand below the index finger (usually by licking) and pour on the salt.
  2. Lick the salt off your hand. The salt lessens the burn of the tequila.
  3. Drink the tequila.
  4. Quickly bite the lemon or lime wedge. The sour fruit balances and enhances the flavor of the tequila.

Cinco De Mayo Tequila Shots, Member KevinAndDon

Always heard that there was a way to do tequila shots and one of us remembered doing them in the 1980s but forgot how. The simplicity of the mix with the three steps was forgotten. One of us was going to put the salt on the lime when the other screamed no. We then found this and had a great shot and will now have more. Happy Cinco De Mayo.
