The wedding cake cocktail is rather common. There are a number of recipes that take on the name, including blended cocktails, shaken drinks, and a few wedding cake martinis. Though they vary in preparation and ingredients, pineapple juice is a common element.

No matter which way you decide to serve the wedding cake, it's going to be perfect for wedding celebrations, including bridal showers. You don't need that event as an excuse to drink it, though! Mix one up anytime you're in the mood for a sweet and delicious cocktail.

This particular wedding cake recipe is a tropical gin smoothie. It's very flavorful, accenting the botanical liquor with amaretto, orange, and pineapple. A little cream gives it a luscious touch that brings it all together, creating an irresistible drink.

Tips

  • One cup of ice is about 5 or 6 average-sized ice cubes.
  • Heavy cream is the most common option for creamy cocktails. At such a small volume in this recipe, it will be perfectly diluted by the blended ice. Milk will likely be too thin, though you could use half and half or even go with a cream liqueur like RumChata.
  • If your blended drink is a little too thick, add some more cream and blend again. When you want it to be thicker, add a couple of extra ice cubes.

How Strong Is a Wedding Cake Cocktail?

The blended wedding cake is a delightfully low-proof cocktail. On average, its alcohol content is just 8 percent ABV (16 proof), falling right between the strength of beer and wine.

Recipe Variations

  • The other popular wedding cake cocktail has a hint of chocolate. For this recipe, you'll shake 1 1/2 ounces of amaretto, 1/2 ounce of white crème de cacao, and 2 ounces each of milk and pineapple juice with ice. Instead of straining, pour the entire contents of the shaker into a highball or hurricane glass.
  • There are also a number of recipes for a wedding cake martini. These typically feature vanilla vodka and pineapple, straining the drinks into a cocktail glass. One version shakes 2 ounces of vanilla vodka, 1 ounce each of pineapple and cranberry juices, and a splash of simple syrup.
  • Another martini is simpler and brings back the chocolate. To make it, shake 1 ounce each of vanilla vodka, white crème de cacao, and pineapple juice.
  • Coconut rum is also a fun addition to any wedding cake cocktail. In one martini version, 1/2 ounce of coconut rum (e.g., Malibu) is shaken with 1 1/2 ounces each of vanilla vodka and pineapple juice, along with a splash of grenadine.
