Definition: A non-alcoholic drink such as water or a soft drink served in a seperate glass along with an alcoholic drink. Presumably a Back is served to reduce the amount of alcohol one drinks and the level of intoxication. It was customary in the 1800's that every alcoholic beverage be served with a water Back.
