The Journalist is a somewhat popular cocktail that dates back to the early 1900's. I think this one has a natural appeal to journalists and may have been used for years as a liquid muse to those who compose words for a living - I know I like it. I am fond of the cartoon that illustrates this drink in the 1939 bar guide Just Cocktails, in which a visor-bearing writer is hammering out his story on an old typewriter, obviously trying to meet a tight deadline.
This classic cocktail is essentially a Perfect Martini, because of its equal parts of each style of vermouth, with the fruity splash of orange and lemon.
