As the name indicates the Obituary Cocktail is not a tame drink. It's the concentration of absinthe (which equals dry vermouth here) that is likely the source of the warning. That aside, it is a stellar drink that retains the opalescence of the traditional absinthe drink and one that I encourage anyone rediscovering absinthe to try. If you like any of the absinthe substitutes will do here and had been the liqueurs of choice during the green fairy's ban.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1/4 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/4 oz absinthe or substitute

Preparation:

  1. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with cracked ice.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
