The Polar Cocktail is an interesting classic cocktail I first found in the 1939 bartending guide, Just Cocktails. The name is slightly deceiving because it doesn't contain any of the flavors we would typically associate with "polar" - no mint, chocolate or even brandy or whiskey here - no, it is simply gin, maraschino, lemon and egg. Maybe it is the foam the egg creates on the top of the drink that made someone think of a winter frost.
However it received its name, it is a great cocktail for any time of year.
