The Polar Cocktail is an interesting classic cocktail I first found in the 1939 Just Cocktails. The name is slightly deceiving because it doesn't contain any of the flavors we would typically associate with "polar" - no mint, chocolate or even brandy or whiskey here - no, it is simply gin, maraschino, lemon and egg. It's that egg that adds the winter effect because of the rich, creamy texture it adds to every drink it's mixed in.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz maraschino liqueur
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1 egg white
Preparation:
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously to ensure the egg is fully mixed.
- Strain into a frozen cocktail glass.
