The mix of flavors in this Satan's Whiskers is really quite pleasant but it is potent and taller than most "up" drinks (grab those over-sized cocktail glasses) and that's may be where it got its scary name.
According to A.J. Rathburn's Good Spirits book, if you were to skip the Grand Marnier for another orange liqueur like curacao the drink would then be called a "Curled Satan's Whiskers." A small technicality (even though the two liqueurs produce slightly different tastes in the drink) but an important note if you ever hear the term.
