Though I often do not get the opportunity to spend Mother's Day with my own mother because of distance, I have found over the years that many women are like her and do not drink alcohol but appreciate mixed drinks. So, for all of those mothers out there I want to share some of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks that I think any mom will enjoy. These are a wonderful way to treat our moms to during a brunch or dinner and will also fit perfectly with any alcohol free 'girly' occasion like wedding and baby showers.
If you are looking for spiked drinks for Mother's Day check out...
1. Apricot Gingerini
This recipe is one of the great mocktails found in Natalie Bovis' book, Preggatinis™. Though the book is designed for moms-to-be, there is no reason any woman would not enjoy this elegant drink made of white grape juice, apricot nectar, ginger simple syrup, and clove. It's a springtime delight.
2. Baby Bellini
The Bellini is a favorite Champagne cocktail for women and the Baby Bellini is just as popular among those who do not drink. The sparkling peach drink is absolutely ideal for brunch and pairs perfectly with almost any food.
3. Coconut Key Lime Momtini
The name and taste of this drink are fantastic additions to any ladies-only occasion. The Momtini also comes from Preggatinis™ and is best described as a key lime pie in a glass. Delicious, elegant, and rather easy to make, mom will love this dessert drink.
4. Mango Julius
You have heard of the Orange Julius, right? Well, this is essentially the same drink but the mango brings it up a notch, adding a more exotic feel that will make your mother feel very special.
5. Preggie Provençe
This is by far my favorite drink from Bovis' Preggatinis™ and I have served it on many occasions to many women with rave reviews on every occasion. What makes the Preggie Provençe so special is the herbal combination of rosemary and lavender, which are always delicious in drinks and one that I use repeatedly.
7. Spring Fever
Mango, apple, lemon, and orange make up this tall mixed drink, but it's not your average orange, this one uses the darker, less acidic blood orange. If your mother is a fan of fruit combinations I can almost gaurantee she will enjoy this one.
8. Sundowner
The Sundowner is another great option for brunch, yet it is lighter than the Bellini which makes it more versatile. I enjoy the use of white grape juice because it is similar to a brisk white wine. Whenever I make this I think of it as making my own grape soda which is far better than most commercial brands, and the mint garnish not only adds just enough complimentary flavor, but a touch of sophistication as well.
9. Sweet Sunrise
Essentially, the Sweet Sunrise is a Tequila Sunrise minus the tequila. The drink is a favorite way to add an extra dimension to a glass of orange juice and is best when you take the time to squeeze the fresh juice and make your own grenadine.
10. Twilight Dove
Finally, we have a drink I made up for another occasion, but which I have found has a place in almost any occasion. Here, darker juices - grape and cranberry - are mixed with agave nectar and then topped with lavender soda. It may seem too easy to be good, but that soda choice was not an accident and make the difference between a good drink and a great drink.
