What is Grand Marnier Natural Cherry?
This cherry liqueur is not strictly cherry. As stated above, it's base is the famous orange liqueur Grand Marnier to which cherry is added. This blend creates a spirit that starts out with the orange notes and finishes with the sweet taste of European Griottes cherries, all backed up with smooth Cognac - this wave repeats in the aroma, palate, and finish, making it far more interesting than the average cherry liqueur. This complex profile makes it a wonderful cocktail mixer, as well as an interesting sipper when served on the rocks. The quality we come to expect from Grand Marnier is here and it is a lovely experience.
Grand Marnier Cherry is perfect for cocktails. One that I particularly enjoyed was Jonathan Pogash's Grand Cerise Surprise. This drink focuses on the cherry, accents it with rum and mixes in milk and syrup for a sweet delight. While that drink is decidedly sweeter, there was another that has a profile of a different means and displays Grand Marnier Cherry in a more transparent form...

Another Great 'Limited Edition'
As with many of the great things in life, there is a catch to this bottling... it will not last long. Natural Cherry will be released in the United States in September of 2012 as a limited edition. This means that while there will be plenty of bottles available for the fall and winter, it is likely that they will be hard to find shortly after that if everything goes as planned. It is always hard to gauge limited edition releases, though it will be a shame when and if this one dwindles into oblivion.
However, a single line in the Grand Marnier Cherry press release seems to suggest more surprises in the future: "Grand Marnier Cherry... marks the launch of an entirely new series of marques that will continue to explore the world's most elegant flavors." If this statement is any indication that we may see more fascinating, fine flavors from The House of Marnier-Lapostolle, we are all going to have some fine drinks to look forward to.
