What is Irish Cream?:

Irish cream is a popular liqueur that is often served on its own over ice, mixed in cocktails, or in shooters. It is made of Irish whiskey, cream, chocolate, and sugar and can also include other flavoring ingredients such as coffee and vanilla.

There are many brands of Irish cream available (see list below). Bailey's Irish Cream is the most popular and was the first Irish cream available. Irish creams range from pale brown to beige and between 15 and 20% alcohol by volume. As with any cream liqueur, Irish cream should be stored carefully: read more about liquor shelf life...

Irish Cream Shooters:

Irish cream is a common ingredient in shooter to add a creamy texture. It is also used in layered shots because its mid-range density (varies slightly by brand) often makes it perfect for floating in the middle layer.

Make Your Own Irish Cream:

Irish cream can be made from scratch. This recipe will fill one 750ml bottle and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month in a well-sealed container.

  • 3/4 cup Irish whiskey
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 2 tsp instant coffee
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend on high for 20-30 seconds, or until smooth. Pour into a bottle using a funnel and seal tightly. Place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 day before using.
