The Commodore is a classic cocktail that is rich and delicious. The recipe from in The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book calls specifically for Bacardi and it is a nice rum for the drink as it could be called a "fancy" Bacardi Cocktail. There is also an odd occurrence of the Commodore containing two syrups, which I think can get a little thick, especially with the egg and sugar. Thank goodness we have Chambord and other raspberry liqueurs that are not as thick but carry on the flavor. Honestly, if you do not like sweet, this is not the drink for you because the only other element to offset that is a dash of lemon.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Bacardi rum
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- dash of lemon juice
- dash of grenadine
- dash of raspberry syrup or liqueur
Preparation:
- Shake all the ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
