The California surfer is best known as a surfer on acid cocktail. This modern classic was first poured in the 1990s. It is an incredibly simple drink and one of the most popular Jägermeister recipes. You can serve it however you like, too. It makes a great shooter, but many people enjoy it on the rocks, though some prefer it up in a cocktail glass. The only constant is that the ingredients are always poured in equal proportions, so it's a really easy drink to remember.

The coconut rum tames the infamous Jägermeister that has become synonymous with the Jäger bomb. Unlike that party shot, or other Jäger shots, the California surfer is a delicious tropical drink that is perfect for a summer day.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce coconut rum

  • 1 ounce Jägermeister

  • 1 ounce pineapple juice

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  3. Shake well.

  4. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

  5. Serve and enjoy.

Tip

Garnish the cocktail with an orange or lime slice, or a pineapple wedge, if you desire.

How Strong Is the California Surfer?

The variable in this recipe's potency is the coconut rum. Many are lower proof than regular rum, and the average is 42 proof. Using that, it's easy to estimate the strength of this drink; it should fall somewhere in the 16 percent ABV (32 proof) range. If you choose a stronger and more flavorful rum, the cocktail's amped up just a bit. Either way, it's not the strongest Jägermeister cocktail you can mix up.
