A Tom and Jerry is a classic winter cocktail and a must try for every explorer of the drink world. It's a sweet, frothy warm drink that is flavored by dark rum and, usually, Cognac (other brandy can be used as well). It's best with hot milk, which makes the drink thicker than if hot water were used.

In response to one reviewer's question: If you do not like the thought of drinking raw eggs you can use on of the artificial egg substitutes. They're not quite the same but do the trick. More about eggs here...

  5. Stir well.
  6. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

""Raw"" eggs, Member ChrisTheSantaFeBarman

Don't fret about ""raw"" eggs. If you milk or water is above 165 degrees F, the eggs are cooked in a way that no bacteria can survive. This is a 100% completely safe drink.
