Tymello Caipirinha

The Tymello Caipirinha is a personal variation of the Brazilian classic cocktail, the Caipirinha. Here I've cut the cachaca, added TY KU to make up for it and skipped the lime, choosing to muddle pumello instead. If you're not familiar with the pumello, it is like a large grapefruit, only sweeter and usually has less juice. You can usually find it in the produce section between November and May and it is one of those great winter reminders (for those of us in the north) that warm days and fresh fruit do exist.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz TY KU liqueur
  • 1 oz cachaca
  • 4-5 3/4" chunks of pumello
  • 2 tsp fine sugar

Preparation:

  1. Place the pumello and sugar into an old-fashioned glass.
  2. Muddle
  3. Fill the glass with ice.
  4. Add the cachaça and TY KU and stir well.

Having bar tended before, I always feel guilty ordering anything that either is blended or muddled. Not to mention, I don't think many bars are going to have the ingredients to make this drink. But I would suggest making it at home because it's definitely worth trying. And having lived in the snow, i know how sometimes you do some tropical reminders from time to time to get threw the cold months and this drink hits the spot.
