The Tequila Inside
Voodoo Tiki Tequila is a 100% Weber blue agave, ultra-premium tequila distilled in the small Mexican town of Capilla de Guadalupe in the Corazón de Los Altos region of Jalisco. The area is known for producing top-knotch agave plants, which are allowed to grow for 10 years. Once harvested the pinas are steamed slowly in hornos (controlled ovens) for 50-72 hours, until the desired sweet agave flavor is reached. The baked agave is then pressed to release its sweet juices, which are then fermented, distilled twice and barreled as tequila.

The Tiki Inside

Legend has it that theres magic inside each bottle of Voodoo Tiki, and Im not speaking of the magic tricks you may think you can perform after downing its contents in a night. While neither the tequila nor the bottle have any actual magical powers, they are pieces of art and you cant help but appreciate such a well-planned, beautifully designed and fantastic tasting spirit.
Each one-of-a-kind bottle is hand-blown with a glass tiki statuette inside. This miniature, gentle giant stares with glowing eyes through the glass with a deep, audacious grin on his face. Under the direction of Master Artisan, Alehandro Nuramo, a team of 10 people work together create each bottle. Both elements, the bottle and the tiki, need to be formed at the same time, and while still hot, the two are joined, reheated to meld together, annealed and cooled. The art comes together in the finished bottle design, with hand etched palms and lettering, a natural wood cork and, just to top it all off, a hand-dipped wax seal. The back of the bottles are numbered, hand-signed and labeled with a magic word that defines the "power" the tiki inside possesses. You may find happiness inside, or maybe courage and possibly even fame or balance.

Traditional Tequilas
Añejo
Voodoo Tikis Añejo is surprisingly lighter than many other añejos. The nose is soft and rich with fruity earthiness that is a fine precursor to the soft palate that displays silky, sweet vanilla, cinnamon and the slightest hint of ginger. While this añejo may look and taste soft, it does follow the warm cognac-like finish customary to its type, but differs from others with a pleasing, much sprightlier agave kick that makes for fantastic straight sipping.
- Aged a minimum of 1 year
- Retails for around $60 for 750 ml bottle
Reposado
The Reposado produced by Voodoo Tiki is my favorite of their traditional tequila line because it conveys the feeling of diffused morning sunshine, true agave flavor and is perfectly sweet and silky at once. Sweet agave, lemon and lavender swirl in the nose with a vibrant, silky entry. The taste is seductively sweet, filled with sweet citrus, vanilla and agave and finishes with an airy, brandy-like agave feel.
- Aged for 6 months
- Retails for around $55 for 750 ml bottle
Platinum
The light, sweet liquid of Voodoo Tiki Platinum is a pleasant precursor to its aged colleagues. Herbs and fruit fill the nose with delicate sweetness, leading into the equally light flavor of mature agave and a touch of pear which also flashes an appearance in the quick, invigorating finish.
- Retails for around $50 for 750 ml bottle
