The Bottom Line

Limonce Limoncello liqueur is a product of Triest, Italy and is a very sweet, rich lemon-flavored liqueur. For this limoncello sun-ripened lemons from the Mediterranean are cold pressed then the oils and aromas are extracted by steeping them in alcohol, after which the spirit is tempered for some added sweetness. Limonce is not as sugary as many limoncellos and adds a nice amount of sweet, natural lemon flavor to cocktails.

Pros

  • Sweet, delicius dessert liqueur - best well-chilled.
  • Very close to natural lemon flavor.

Cons

  • Only available in 1 liter bottles.

Guide Review - Limonce Limoncello Liqueur

Limoncello liqueurs are commonly drank before and after dinner straight and most are thick, too syrupy for cocktails. This is not the case with Limonce. While it does retain a rich, lemony texture, its lighter body makes it ideal in drinks like an In and Out Lemontini and Yellow Fairy. In drinks with darker profiles like the Tuscan Pear and Island Voodoo, Limonce adds a bright, sunny aspect for balance. Limonce is quite perfect to keep chilled and used often: you may even find yourself adding it to more things than you think, but keeping it in stock should not be a problem as it is only available in liter bottles.

Beyond cocktails, Limonce has a wonderful character for food (savory and sweet), but especially desserts and especially with blueberries. Both the Blueberry Limoncello Cake and Limonce Blueberry Semifreddo prove this and are absolutely delectable when fresh blueberries are in season and heavier desserts will not do. One of my favorite indulgences in which Limonce's light body is divine is to simply drizzle it over vanilla ice cream and if you're looking for a clean palate in between courses, this is a delightful intermezzo.
