Glenfiddich is preparing to auction off one of its rarest bottles this month to benefit Friends of Scotland, the charity founded by Sean Connery to create educational scholarships and benefit veterans of foreign wars. Offering up one of the few precious bottles of Glenfiddich 50 year old for a simultaneous auction to be held at the Mandarin hotel in New York, the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami and the Peninsula hotel in Los Angeles, this bottle is the only one being offered for home purchase in the United States. Three other bottles will make their way into the United States and will be available at the auction hotels.
Described as having a flavor profile that features “zesty orange marmalade and vanilla toffee…aromatic herbs, floral and soft fruits, silky oak tannin and hints of gentle smoke” this bottle is hand blown and comes in a hand-stitched leather case modeled after William Grant’s (the founder of Glenfiddich) personal ledgers. Also included for the winning bidder is a personally signed thank you from James Bond himself, Sean Connery.
“Time and tradition, and a small, significant measure of the unknown have contributed to making every drop of this beautifully-matured fifty year old whisky, some of the most precious Glenfiddich has to offer,” said David Stewart (Malt Master for Glenfiddich). “It is some of our finest whisky, nurtured over many years by generations of dedicated and distinguished long-serving craftsmen using techniques lost to most other distilleries. Only an independent, family-owned distillery can remain true to its founding principles and continually pioneer in its pursuit of excellence.”
The auction is going to be conducted by Christie’s North America. Interested bidders should call (646) 356-8350 to participate in the auction. The auction will be conducted December 7, 2009.
