The 22 Best Gifts for Whiskey Lovers of 2024

Think outside the bottle with these creative presents

A collage of gifts for whiskey lovers we recommend on a striped green background

The Spruce Eats / Lecia Landis

If you're looking for a gift for a fan of whiskey, you could always go with a nice bottle of their favorite spirit, but that can be risky. If you don't know whether your connoisseur friend is a fan of bourbon, rye, Scotch, or something else, you're liable to pick out a spirit that's not their favorite. (And on top of that, once the bottle's empty, the thrill is gone.)

If you’d prefer to give a gift to your drinker that will last longer than a few pours, some glassware, cocktail tools, or other whiskey accoutrements might be a better choice. Thankfully, there are lots of those, whether you're looking to spend just a few bucks or a small fortune.

If you've attended any kind of high-end whiskey event, you've almost definitely run into the Glencairn glass. The instantly recognizable vessel wasn't invented until 2001, but it's rapidly become the industry standard for connoisseur-level tasting—and it's one of our favorite whiskey glasses, period. The unique tulip shape channels aromas to the nose, making it easier to suss out the subtle tasting notes of the whiskey inside. Given that it's made for sipping spirits neat, the Glencairn has a fairly small capacity, but it's comfortable to hold and swirl, with a weighty base to keep it from tipping over. No serious whiskey lover should be without a set.

Capacity: 6 ounces

Barbecue pitmasters can smoke almost any type of meat or vegetable, so why can't a mixological pitmaster smoke a cocktail? In the last few years, several different devices for adding wood-fired flavor to drinks have come on the market, and our top pick after extensive testing is this Breville model. It's in the middle of the road in terms of cost but right at the top for performance and ease of use. All you have to do is load up the removable burn chamber with wood chips (or tea, or spices, or whatever else you'd like) and turn it on. There's an adjustable fan to make sure air flows at the right speed, and a long, flexible nozzle to direct the smoke wherever you'd like it to go. The Smoking Gun Pro is foolproof to use and dishwasher-safe to clean; what more could you ask for?

Dimensions: 5.8 x 3.3 x 6.8 inches | Weight: 2 pounds

Classic is right there in the name with this traditional-looking hip flask. But Stanley's version has been updated with modern features, including a BPA-free interior lining and a hinge-mounted screw cap that's impossible to lose. It's made of rustproof stainless steel and is available in a total of nine different colors. The wide mouth makes it easy to fill without a tiny, fiddly funnel, and it holds up to 8 ounces, which is equivalent to four or five drinks' worth.

Dimensions: 7.5 x 2.9 x 1.3 inches | Capacity: 8 ounces

A Cool Coaster will hold a glass securely and protect the table beneath from condensation rings, but that's not the reason it's cool. If you put one in the freezer for a few hours before you use it, it'll also keep your whiskey cold without any dilution. Made from recycled granite, the coasters are heavy and dense enough to maintain a chill for a good long time, and the included 8-ounce tumblers—made from recycled glass—fit perfectly. (The Wayfair listing above also includes a pair of granite chilling stones made to freeze and go directly in the glass, while the Uncommon Goods listing sells them separately.)

Material: Recycled granite (coasters, whiskey stones); recycled glass (tumblers) | Tumbler Capacity: 8 ounces

Before drinks like the Sazerac and Rob Roy became classics, they were the special creations of one individual bartender. That's the idea behind Amanda Schuster's new book, which rounds up signature recipes from medieval times to the 21st century, and profiles the mixologists and stories behind them. The book covers the whole country (and the whole world), with gorgeous full-page photos of every single drink. It's a coffee-table book in quality of construction, but it's also a cocktail book you'll actually want to use. (Signature Cocktails is currently available for preorder and will be released on October 4.)

This glass is a truly unique way to enjoy whiskey on the rocks. The included silicone mold lets you freeze a triangular wedge of ice to the bottom of the glass before you pour in your whiskey. This chills without too much dilution just like a large ice cube or sphere, but looks way more distinctive. The glass holds 9 ounces in total, though half of it will be taken up by ice, so it's best for straight spirits or small, strong, stirred cocktails like the old-fashioned.

Dimensions: 3.1 x 3.1 x 3.9 inches | Materials: Glass, silicone | Capacity: 9 ounces

Butterscotch and caramel are on the list of tasting notes for many whiskeys, so it makes perfect sense to add whisky to caramels. These delicious treats incorporate the fruity and smoky notes of Ardmore, a peated single malt from Scotland's Highland region. The heart-shaped tin includes 30 individually wrapped candies, and despite the name, it's a great gift for someone of any gender who loves Scotch. (Manly Man Co. also offers other delectable booze-infused treats, like whiskey-flavored beef jerky, or a MANcakes kit with whiskey barrel–aged maple syrup, bacon jerky, chocolate-covered espresso beans, and high-protein pancake mix.)

Flavor: Single-malt Scotch caramel | Count: 30 individually wrapped pieces | Weight: 8.2 ounces | Ingredients: Fresh milk, fresh cream, cane sugar, inverted cane sugar, tapioca syrup, single-malt Scotch (alcohol 40%), butter (cream, salt), molasses, salt

What could be cuter than a tiny Loch Ness Monster swimming in your glass of Scotch? After a few hours in the freezer, this stainless-steel Nessie will keep your whisky nice and cool, and the attached suction cup will keep her floating at the right depth. It's a fun and functional gift that's in the perfect price range for an office colleague or other casual acquaintance.

This candle's sophisticated scent captures the oaky, charred, and sweet notes of bourbon—without the alcohol burn. We promise it'll make your living room, kitchen, or home bar smell much better than spilling some whiskey all over the floor. Made from soy-based wax and essential oils, the 8-ounce candle will burn for a whopping 45 hours, an excellent value for its reasonable price.

Perhaps best known for its high-end corkscrews, the Rabbit brand makes barware of many kinds, including this decanter that lets you customize your own whiskey. The 20-ounce jar will hold chunks of fruit, cinnamon sticks, or whole nuts, while the stainless steel basket attached to the tight-sealing lid holds onto seeds, spices, and other small bits. After infusion, a micro-filter in the lid strains out any sediment for a perfectly smooth final product, and then all the pieces can go in the dishwasher for cleaning. "It's essentially meal-prep for cocktails," says Senior Editor Siobhan Wallace. "I can get all my ingredients together early on in the work week, and by Friday evening, my log-off drink will already be made for me." If you're in need of inspiration, the decanter comes with a recipe booklet to get you started.

Material: Glass, cork stopper | Dimensions: 3.7 x 7.5 inches | Capacity: 20 ounces | Dishwasher-Safe: Yes, except for cork stopper

You can turn any room into an instant home bar with this slick whiskey-glass sign. It comes in 10 colors and three sizes to match whichever decor you'd like. The LED lights give off a warm glow and are adjustable using the included dimmer remote, plus they're safer (and a lot cheaper) than a traditional neon lamp. It even comes with double-sided tape to get everything mounted and set up.

Dimensions: 15 x 12.2, 17.7 x 14.6, or 19.7 x 16 inches | Color Options: 10

For the whiskey-lover with hometown pride, one of these handmade bottle stoppers is a nice choice. Made from walnut and maple, the stopper can be topped with the outline of any US state. The cone-shaped silicone rings will seal almost any size opening, whether that's on a bottle of whiskey, wine, or anything else.

Material: Dark walnut and maple wood, stainless steel, silicone | Dimensions: 1 x 1.15 x 3.5

A huge, comfy leather armchair just feels like the right place to sit and have a contemplative glass of whiskey, and Article's Sven chair has a warm and welcoming design that's relaxing just to look at. The 24-inch-deep seat is spacious, and the generous arm rests are more than wide enough to rest your rocks glass. Pictured here in the rich brown Charme Chocolat color, the chair is also available in tan, black, or dark-blue leather, as well as six different fabric and velvet options. The Sven makes for a seriously generous gift, but it's a piece of quality furniture that should last a lifetime, if not more.

Style: Mid-century modern | Material: Charme leather (also available in fabric and velvet), composite wood frame, foam-padded and fiber- and feather-filled cushions | Color Options: Chocolate, tan, black, dark blue | Dimensions: 42 x 38 x 34 inches | Assembly Required: Yes (about five minutes)

For the whiskey geek who's also a Star Wars geek, this set of molds is an ideal gift. They freeze large ice spheres that will chill a drink without melting and diluting it too much, which also look just like everybody's favorite planet-destroying space station. The flexible silicone material is easy to peel off the frozen sphere, and it's also dishwasher-safe. Plus, the opportunities for cocktail puns are endless. How about an Empire Strikes Buck? A Wookie Whiskey Sour? A Skywalker Sazerac?

Material: Silicone | Included: 6 molds

A former managing editor at Whisky Advocate and a journalist who's been writing about the spirit for nearly 30 years, Lew Bryson is one of the world's foremost experts on whiskey in all its forms. This book, his sixth, is set up as a literal self-guided class for drinkers who want to learn more, with a syllabus that covers bourbon, rye, Scotch, Japanese whisky, Irish whiskey, and others. Lessons include how the spirits are made, several in-depth interviews with master distillers, and plenty of opportunities for "homework," with extensive tasting notes on dozens of bottlings.

If you need an extravagant gift for someone with an extravagant whiskey collection, look no further. Uncrate's Whiskey Vault offers bank vault–level security for up to 21 precious bottles. It’s constructed from solid steel plates, with three 25-millimeter locking bolts and a bulletproof front window to show off bottles while also protecting them. The lock operates with a PIN code as well as an old-school spinning three-spoke handle. The vault itself sits atop a wheeled teak cabinet that can hold an additional 21 bottles, plus glassware, tools, and other cocktail accoutrements. Keep in mind that the made-to-order vault takes 9 to 12 weeks for delivery, so you'll need to plan ahead.

Dimensions: 30 x 15.8 x 49.5 inches | Materials: Steel, aircraft aluminum, teak | Weight: 308 pounds

You know the neon-red, plasticky "cherries" you often find at the bottom of a cocktail glass? These are the luxury version, our favorite cocktail cherry of all time. They start life as wild-growing Italian cherries, which are pitted, candied in their own juices, and packed in a distinctive ceramic crock. Fabbri's cherries have an intense level of sweet-and-tart flavor that's incredible in a Manhattan. Don't forget to use the syrup in the jar, either! It's excellent in place of simple syrup in all kinds of cocktails, or just poured over ice cream.

Origin: Italy | Ingredients: Sugar, amarena wild cherries, glucose syrup, water, amarena wild cherries juice, citric acid, fruit juice for color, vegetable juice for color, natural flavors | Labels: All-natural, non-GMO, Star-K kosher, lactose-free, gluten-free, vegan

In our testing of drinking glasses, this set was the top pick for whiskey. It's made from sparkly lead-free crystal, with a matching look that unifies the decanter and six matching glasses. The square-bottomed glasses sit securely on a table or bar, but the twisted design gives you a stable grip in the middle, with a traditional round top to sip from. The decanter can comfortably hold a full standard-sized whiskey bottle, and the entire seven-piece set costs less than you might pay for just a pair of crystal tumblers from other brands. Everything is even dishwasher-safe!

Material: Lead-free crystal | Capacity: 27 ounces (decanter), 10 ounces (glasses)

This extensive cocktail book is easy enough for beginners, but it includes tons of sophisticated recipes to satisfy the more adventurous drinker. The chapters are organized by base spirit (including a whiskey section, of course), but there are also a collection of homemade syrups and mixers, plus advice for creating original recipes of your own. Author Prairie Rose is a former bartender and longtime cocktail writer who worked at The Spruce Eats until recently. We miss her!

You can use the exact same amount of whiskey, sugar, and ice in an old-fashioned, but if you use different types of bitters, you'll get two completely different drinks. Spicy Angostura-style bitters are easy to find, but Fee Brothers brings a wide range of other options to the table. The brand makes a total of 21 flavors, and this collection rounds up six of its more unusual ones. The black walnut and cardamom are warming, great for wintertime drinks, while cherry, citrus and plum are brighter. The celery bitters sounds pretty out-there, but you'll be surprised how well its vegetal notes go with fruit juice and whiskey.

Included: 5 6-ounce bottles | Flavors: Cardamom, black walnut, plum, celery, orange, cherry old-fashioned

As the name suggests, Bourbon Barrel Foods makes all kinds of tasty treats from used bourbon barrels. That includes soy, Worcestershire, and other sauces aged in the casks as well as spices smoked over their burning oak staves. The company's Kentuckyaki, made with actual bourbon as well as Kentucky-grown sorghum syrup, is a lovely spin on teriyaki sauce, our favorite brand to brush on steak. It's amazing on the grill, where the sweet, garlicky sauce caramelizes in the high heat and pairs wonderfully with almost any meat or vegetable you can throw at it.

Size: 16 ounces | Ingredients: Soy sauce (soybeans, wheat, salt, water, yeast), Kentucky sorghum, apple cider vinegar, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, Kentucky bourbon | Labels: All-natural, non-GMO, low sugar, vegetarian

This elegant bar cart can hold not just a whiskey collection but also all the ingredients, glassware, recipe books, and other tools you need to throw a full cocktail party. The wood-and-steel caddy can hold up to 90 pounds, with shelves at multiple levels that are accessible from all sides. It's fairly affordable for such a high-quality item, perhaps in part because it ships in flat-pack form and you have to assemble it at home.

Material: Wood, steel | Dimensions: 28 x 16 x 43 inches | Assembly Required: Yes (no longer than an hour) | Weight Threshold: Can hold up to 90 pounds
