El Pepino Cocktail - From Milagro Tequila and Gaston Martinez

Las Vegas mixologist, Gaston Martinez has a fantastic idea in El Pepino. Take a reposado tequila like Milagro into a Margarita, then add cucumber, cilantro and egg whites to bring an earthy flavor. The result is a smash hit and is following a trend I'm seeing more often in that cucumber is making more and more of an appearance in cocktails. It is a great ingredient and adds a freshness that no other food can touch. This would make a fabulous brunch cocktail and the recipe doesn't specify but I started out muddling and it worked great.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz Milagro Reposado Tequila
  • 3/4 oz Bols Triple Sec
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3 slices cucumber
  • 6 cilantro leaves
  • 1/4 oz egg white
  • cucumber slice for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Muddle the cucumber, cilantro and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add the other ingredients and ice.
  3. Shake vigorously.
  4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  5. Garnish with a thin cucumber slice.
